The Debt Collective
In 2014, I cofounded the Debt Collective, a debtors union for borrowers to join together to fight back against creditors and (in the case of student debt) against the federal government that issued their loans. In 2015, I was a key architect of the first student debt strike in US history. Strikers marched in the streets, lobbied Congress, and won the support of the public. By 2022, billions of dollars in student loans had been cancelled, a victory that showed the power of cross-class organizing for economic justice.
